First Draft of My Forward for My Picture Book

Allan L. Beane said in Together We Can Be Bully Free that “Bullying is when a person hurts, embarrasses, or frightens another person on purpose over and over again.”  Many children, everywhere, are victims of bullying.  They feel alone and ostrisized, confused at what to do, and afraid to let someone know what is happening.  The National Association of Elementary School Principals wrote that “At least 28 percent of students 12-18 are bullied at school.”  There are millions of children in this age group, which can give you an idea of just how large and important this issue is.  It is not acceptable that so many people each day have to go through this.
I have had many experiences with bullying in both elementary and middle school, and I know how the millions of children that have been through the same thing felt.  Yourself confidence is lost quickly, when everyday you’re being told you are not good enough, that you are not equal to others.  Many bullies are insecure themselves, and hide them by forcing similar problems onto the people around them.  I see bullying spread like a disease; and very few are immune.

Many professionals are working to stop bullying, and the first step to this is spreading awareness of what is happening.  People are doing so through websites, letters home to parents from the school, and other things.  Children and parents must work together, and only through doing this will it be possible to put an end to bullying.  To fight this deadly disease people know as bullying, people need to know how you get it, and how to fight it.  Bullying truly is a devastating thing that occurs far too often, and we are the people who need to end it.
